Criminal Justice

The breadth of testing among Sterling’s suite of laboratories yields the right mix of expertise, technology and support to serve a wide range of clients. Criminal justice testing is one of our core service lines with clients ranging from judges, probation officers and child protection agencies to rehabilitation specialists, treatment facilities and substance abuse case managers. Our test results are used to make important decisions that affect the welfare of individuals, families and society at large.

Comprehensive Test Menu

Sterling’s criminal justice clients perform testing to confirm an individual’s compliance with a treatment plan, court order or other legal directive. Our screen and confirmation panels include illicit drug classes, synthetic designer substances like K2/Spice and bath salts and commonly abused prescription medications. Specimens are tested on state-of-the-art equipment including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

Forensic Quality Standards

Sterling applies the highest forensic standards to each sample and every part of the testing process, from direct observed collections to a strict chain of custody that preserves specimen integrity. We also maintain full certification in Forensic Drug Testing from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and attain additional state licenses when mandated. Rapid Results for Quick Decision Making

In the legal world, decisions are made in hours, not days. Our criminal justice testing follows suit by turning most results within 24 hours so that legal agents have the right information to act quickly and with confidence.

Automated Caseload Management

A revolutionary offering within our lab portfolio is Sentry™, a web-based tool that acts as an electronic case worker, collection specialist and administrator for substance abuse management programs. Sentry can perform several functions, including real-time alerts, test randomization and report generation.

Related Service Offerings

Sterling’s role doesn’t stop at testing. Our labs offer additional support in the form of results interpretation and technical support, testimony and litigation assistance, direct bill and third-party billing to Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance and on-site training for staff.
